Program Description
Admiral Farragut Academy was founded in Pine Beach, New Jersey, in 1933 under the leadership of Admiral S. S. Robison, USN, former Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy, and Brigadier General Cyrus S. Radford, USMC. The Academy is America's first preparatory school with Naval training. It is an independent coeducational day and boarding school that has earned the title of Honor Naval School through our Naval Junior ROTC program. Student population is made up of grades Kindergarten through 12 and a post graduate year. Annual enrollment is approximately 400 cadets. A typical graduating senior class has 45 to 50 students. All graduating seniors are expected to attend a four year college or university. The Academy employs 57 professional faculty members of which over fifty percent hold advanced degrees. About thirty percent of the faculty live on campus and in the dormitories with the boarding cadets. There is a faculty to student ratio of 1:10 and average class size is fourteen students. The school is chartered as a nonprofit corporation directed by the Superintendent for a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees, active members of which include alumni and parents of alumni. The Academy occupies 55 acres on Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Admiral Farragut Academy is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Florida Council of Independent Schools; it holds membership in the National Association of Independent Schools, the Secondary School Admission Test Board, and the National Association of Military Colleges and Schools.

Sports offerings include boy's teams in football, cross country, swimming, basketball, soccer, track and field, baseball, golf, riflery, wrestling and tennis; and girl's teams in swimming, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, softball, golf, tennis, cross country, riflery and track and field. Sailing, weight training, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and swimming are popular free time activities. Athletic facilities include the waterfront facilities , a 1/4 mile asphalt track, a baseball diamond, a softball field, an indoor rifle range, a swimming pool, the Moyer Gymnasium, volleyball pits, a weight room, field houses, the Al Ross '49 Football Field, and a soccer field.
