|Hawk Circle Wilderness Programs began in 1989 as a one week camp experience for teens who began their journey to learn skills of awareness, survival, community, and self discovery. Since that summer, we have grown to include family camps, adult workshops, expeditions, community gatherings, festivals, and instructor training programs. Our commitment to providing real mentoring to students has kept our classes small and we continue to work with participants in a fun, supportive and community oriented environment, to promote new outlooks, personal growth and creativity.
We moved in 1997 from the upper Hudson Valley area to Cherry Valley, NY where we currently base our camps and programs on approximately 200 acres of woods, meadows, and wetlands on an old farmstead. This area is very rural, about an hour and a half south west of Albany. The ecosystem here is host to a great diversity of wildlife, from fishers, bears, and bald eagles to weasels, humming birds, and porcupines. Out outdoor wilderness camp is rugged yet comfortable with participants sleeping in tents on platforms. Food for our programs is mostly vegetarian and as organic as possible, with lots of fresh food direct from our organic gardens in season. We tend to offer excellent healthy meals that kids like and find familiar. Out facilities include an infirmary, outdoor showers, a commercial kitchen, and barns, volleyball and basketball courts as well as two tipis for gatherings and craft space. Medical facilities and a supportive local community are close by and out staff undergo a safety training that satisfies or exceeds the standards set by the New York State Dept. of Health, our certifying agency. Our staff are professionals who make the difference in providing a quality experience for all of our programs.
